In Arizona, and specifically in Maricopa County, after the Arraignment but before the Trial, many pretrial conferences are held in the criminal courts. In Scottsdale, there may only be two of them before the court sets the case to trial. In some courts in Phoenix Municipal Court, as many as five or more are held. Phoenix attorney David A. Black discusses how the criminal courts set these hearings so that the lawyer can meet with the prosecutor, discuss outstanding discovery, and talk about plea agreements. For more information, please contact your attorney or our office.
Also, please keep in mind that court processes and procedures are controlled by state, local, and even federal laws, rules and guidelines; therefore, it is important to get with someone you trust and who also knows the system prior to embarking upon this sometimes daunting, yet entirely manageable, fight.
