Officials announced last month that they made “massive” drug-related arrests after a 17-month investigation dubbed “Operation Pipeline Express.”
The agencies involved, including those in Maricopa County, stated the bust resulted in the seizure of over 30 tons of marijuana and 100 weapons, and led to the arrest of 76 people. Interestingly, the operation began as a result of a “routine” traffic stop, which disclosed the presence of 1,500 pounds of marijuana. Officials went on to state that the seizure was part of an estimated $33 million in marijuana smuggled into the United States from Mexico.
